Catalog ENCG-0001 Exclusive 0 Composer Motoi Sakuraba Publisher Engine Inc. Japan Number of Discs 1 Release Date Nov 27, 2003 Updated Mar 05, 2008 Description Sold Out! This CD contains the original and arranged soundtracks to a shooting game. Tracks 1-4 are arranged and Tracks 5-22 are original versions from the X68000 game. The game was also released on the Sega Genesis. (Originally released on December 12, 1990) Custom Text Review for Maneuver Cepter Granada by Bryan Singleton The first music I heard by Motoi Sakuraba was the arrange album for Star Ocean 2. What I found striking about that music was the power of the arrangements and the strength of the melodies. Thus, I dedicated much time towards learning more about the works of Motoi Sakuraba. Maneuver Cepter Granada, although made in 1990, has compositions that are just as good as the later works of Motoi Sakuraba. The CD contains four arranged versions, two of which are medleys, and the original music from the X68000 version of Granada. The X68000 was a gaming system released only in Japan. Granada was also released on the Mega Drive in Japan and on the Sega Genesis in the United States. If youÆre curious, the X68000 version was released first, in 1989. Motoi Sakuraba did not compose all the music in Granada. Masaaki Uno, another Wolf Team member, composed 3 tracks for Granada. However, only the music by Sakuraba was actually arranged on this CD and Sakuraba made the arrangements himself. They are instantly recognizable as Sakuraba, due to the heavy keyboard and synthesizer work, coupled with melodies that are not easy to forget. The ending theme, for example, is very emotional. The sound quality of the four arranged tracks is typical for a 1990 game music album. By today's standards, they are dated but they've aged well. The compositions make up for the modest ?Ebut not too bad ?Esound quality. The sound quality of the original X68000 music is comparable with that of the Sega Genesis. In other words, it is slightly worse than the sound quality of the Super Nintendo. Slightly worse than the Super Nintendo is actually a fairly decent condition to be in if youÆre a piece of video game music. The Super Nintendo was a powerful piece of hardware. DonÆt worry; if you listen to video game music, you will have no complaints with the quality of the X68000Æs original music capabilities. Ah, one more thing: it is advisable to crank up the volume when listening to the arrange versions. This music was meant to be felt. I stated that Granada has compositions that are just as good as the later works of Motoi Sakuraba. I have heard Shining the Holy Ark, Tales of Phantasia, Valkyrie Profile, everything from the Star Ocean series, Beyond the Beyond, and even his arrangements on the Shin Megami Tensei Devil Children album. Granada stands up well against those powerful collections of music. Not every CD is perfect and the case with Granada is simply a personal opinion of mine. Since two of the four arranged tracks are medleys, eight songs were actually arranged. That's not enough! Excluding the loading music, Granada has sixteen unique pieces of music. It would have been preferable to have them all arranged. Yes, the original compositions are that good. You will be very pleased with this CD. Do not miss it, especially if you like anything by Motoi Sakuraba. Now that it's being reprinted, one may avoid paying the very high prices this goes for in auctions. Track List
