Best presented Sonic soundtrack album - Slightly forgettable music, 2009-02-12
Reviewer : Setnaro - See all my reviews

Compared to all of the past Sonic OST's that's been released, I'd have to say that Planetary Pieces is one of the better looking albums that's well worth owning just for presentation and collection. Unlike past albums, which came in a 1 disc, 2 disc, or 3 disc jewel case, this album is presented through a foldable box that holds 3 discs rather nicely. The gatefold box can be folded nicely into one nice box cover, presenting the title "Planetary Pieces" in a nice reflective and shiny display. For the music, the game was given a more "around the world" approach, so the compositions and arrangements have a more elaborate feel to it, using instruments highly recognized from each part of the planet. The game steps away from the 80's inspired rock that is highly recognized from past title like SA2, and while it is one of the higher points for this game, the music isn't entirely memorable. The soundtrack has a total of 91 tracks to listen to. From my point of view, it was rather difficult finding a song I could sit down and enjoy listening to. I would say at least 10 songs stood out from the soundtrack, and that's bad considering that's less then half of the what the soundtrack offers. Sonic '06 remains the better album in comparison to this one. This album is more for people who enjoy collecting Sonic items. This is by far one of the best designed Sonic albums ever. This is the kind of item you'd want to put on a shelf for those to see. If you're looking to buy this album just for the music, you might end up a bit disappointed. This album was made more for collectors.
