PUZZLE x MUSIC, 2005-06-27

Lumines is an amazing PSP game, and its soundtrack is more than worthy of garnering the same amount of praise as the game it belongs to. There's a variety of styles on the remixes album, with most being based on or composed with an electronica flair; the soundtrack is not as hard hitting or trance-oriented as Tetsuya Mizuguchi's other synesthesic masterpiece Rez, but it is still tangibly synthetic with excellent grooves and song progression. There are a few clunkers and disappointing songs on the album, which is to be expected, but the only real flaw of the soundtrack set is that "Shake ya body" and "Shinin'" are not on-disc; if gamers want to have these songs on their iPods and in their CD collection they will need to hunt down the Mondo Grosso discs that contain them. Lumines remixes isn't perfect, but it's still well worth the investment, especially if you're a fan of the game; and seriously, who isn't?
